Rag Dolls

All dolls and accessories on this page are handcrafted signed and dated by me, no one else. A handcrafted item means something personal to the artist who made it. It gives me happiness to make the piece, and part of that happiness is the thought that others will use and enjoy it. Traditional art sometimes can contain history whether it be stuffing with torn rags or cotton from an old quilt, using vintage fabrics, old buttons or just an old rusty piece of tin that has been salvaged from a barn being torn down or making something the way they did back in the 1800's. When you receive a piece of art from me, there were no time limits put on it. Sometimes, I may work on a piece for weeks. When you see a doll or accessory from me, I hope that it means something special in your life taking you back to a simpler time, a fond memory or something that makes you happy. Without modern-day artists practicing and furthering these honorable old trades, many of these skills would be lost to future generations, and our society would be much poorer for it! Love, Catherine

1816 Holly & Her Candy Cane Stocking
So Primitive is Holly & her Candy Cane Stocking. Shes is 9 1/2" "and full of charm. Holly is wearing a brown and tan homespun flannel dress. Her Stocking is a deep cranbery red w/black stripes and filled full of fresh rosehips and sweet annie and holly. She has a heavily aged and tag with the date 1816 stamped. $45.00 plus shipping. Primitive Christma Ragdoll With Stocking
This Primitive Christmas Rag Doll looks truly like an old rag doll from the past. She is made in ole timey nubby osnaburg. Her dress is a wonderful nubby brown check homespun. She is fully stuffed with rags and aged and sanded with holes where she really looks moth eaten all over. If you love Primitive she will steal your heart. I added a wonderful deep dark cranberry stripe moda with a black stripe stocking to her arms which can be removed after the holidays are over. Adorned in the stocking is a bundle of fresh sweet annie and rosehips that smell so yummy. She has a tied off jute string at her waist with her name stamped on a round tag in black and aged also. Shes 14” tall but floppy and on the chunky side. I promise you will love her. Limited, signed and dated by me. $65.00 plus shipping.

Peahen Pincushion
These Peahen pincushions are gussetted and a large 12” tall by 12” long fully stuffed with rags and perched on a heavily aged base. Lots of trinkets and pins, rusty bells added. Very heavily aged and distressed to look old. There’s a wing on each side so you can display them in either direction. The tail and wings have all been hand=stitched around each piece for a more homespun look. All madder blue SOLD OUT! Only 1 left in Madder Brown and 1 left in a aged natural homespun. A lot of time and detail went into these. They are based on a Barbara Stein design but handmade and signed by me $45.00 plus shipping. Limited, signed and dated by me.

Early Animals
I'm so excited to be able to offer you these. They are alot of time to make with so much detail. They truely look like early toys from the past with differnt stages of ageing, sanding and antiqueing. Wouldn't they be especially sweet under the tree for the holidays? I can just see a small child running down stairs on Christmas morning and seeing one of these and their eyes light up way back in the 1800's. They each are guessetted, have four legs with tails that swing for the elephant and a wire has been added for the puppy dog so we can let it wag. And old button eyes on each side. Bakers Men Set of Three
Bakers Men...run run run just as fast as you can. You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man. This set appeared in the November issue of Country Mareketplace. A VERY large weighted set of dolls hope you like them. They are a set of three and have pinched noses and eyebrows. Simple black embroidered eyes and a straight stitched mouth. Each one is painted over and over and aged with a wonderful scenting technique. They smell so yummy! They have indentations to appear as if they have buttons. The large man is 18" tall and quite broad and is weighted and will stand on his own and he will come with an aged sifter. The medium man is 12" and will come with the aged gingerbread cookie cutter. The small man that the large man is holding is 9" tall and has pinched facials. Each man will come very aged. They each will have stiffened scarves done in brown homespun. Can be left out year around. Limited, signed & dated by me. These continue to be a very popular item for me and I love to make them. So, I decided to leave them on my site thru the holidays. Trimming The Tree Snowfolk
These sweet Stump Snowfolk have gathered to decorate the forest tree. They each are taking turns to decorate with old antique brown/golden tinsel. They have hand stitched facials. Also, adorning their heavily aged flannel coat are rusty jingle bells and pins, stiffened aged dark cranberry scarf. Limited, Signed & Dated by me. 8 ½” Tall. SORRY Sold Out!

Prairie Doll Pincushion
New © design and handmade by me! These are new but made with fabrics from the 1800’s so detailed with lots of little stitching. The Prairie Stick Doll is attached to Tan, Brown & Blue stripe ticking cushion. The dresses are done in blue and brown homespun your choice. Their bonnets are made with cadet and robin egg blue, or tan small print calicos. I’ve embellished them with rusty pins and bells. The word “Pins” in stitched in a naïve style in the bottom left corner. The sizes are 4 ½ by 3 ½” and each pincushion is different. There’s a string for hanging.
